DNAK Toolkit (“the app”), developed and published by Dynamic Cycling, S.L. (“DNAK Cycling”), is designed to help users configure, calibrate, and monitor compatible DNAK Cycling hardware devices.
Information Collection and Data Safety
The app does not require a user account or registration, and it does not collect personal identifiers such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, contacts, photos, or precise real-time geolocation data.
To provide its core functionalities, the app processes and utilizes the following data locally on the device:
- Device Identifiers: Bluetooth MAC addresses and hardware identifiers are processed to discover, pair, and securely connect to compatible DNAK devices.
- Telemetry and Diagnostics: Device configuration data, firmware versions, and diagnostic telemetry are processed locally while using active configuration features.
- User Input: Custom labels, names, and preferences entered by the user for paired devices and accessories are saved locally.
- Camera Data: The app accesses the device camera solely to scan pairing QR codes. Camera images are processed locally in real-time, are never stored, and never leave the device.
Data Sharing and Transmission (OTA Updates)
When an active internet connection is available and the user navigates to the device configuration screen, the app transmits the device’s MAC address and current firmware version to the DNAK Cycling Over-The-Air (OTA) service.
- Purpose: This transmission is strictly required to check for firmware availability and safely deliver system or functionality updates.
- Encryption: All data in transit to the DNAK Cycling OTA service is encrypted securely using HTTPS.
- Third-Party Libraries (Nordic DFU): The app integrates official, local open-source libraries from Nordic Semiconductor (Android-DFU-Library) to execute wireless firmware updates via Bluetooth. These libraries operate completely offline on your device, do not collect personal information, and do not transmit any data to Nordic Semiconductor or any other third party.
- Ad Networks and Brokers: The app does not sell personal information and does not share any data with third-party advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics trackers.
Data Storage, Retention, and Deletion
All paired device records, user-defined labels, and pairing credentials are stored locally on the user’s mobile device using the Android operating system’s encrypted storage mechanisms.
- Data Deletion: Users can remove paired devices and clear local records at any time from within the app settings.
- App Uninstallation: Uninstalling the app automatically deletes all locally stored data created by the app, subject to standard Android device backup settings.
- Temporary review or demonstration device records are cleared automatically upon app restart.
Device Permissions
The app requests system permissions only when strictly necessary to perform its functions:
- Bluetooth Permissions: Required to scan for, connect to, and communicate with compatible DNAK hardware, as well as to trigger firmware updates via the Nordic DFU service.
- Connected Device Foreground Service: Required on Android 14 and above to ensure that firmware updates to your DNAK hardware complete successfully in the background without being interrupted if you minimize the app or turn off the screen.
- Location Permission: On older Android versions where the operating system technically bundles Bluetooth scanning under location services, the app may request location access. The app does not access, collect, or use Bluetooth scanning to determine or track the user’s geographical location.
- Camera Permission: Required exclusively to scan device pairing QR codes.
- Internet Access: Required to securely check firmware availability via HTTPS and download update files.
Children’s Privacy
The app is not directed toward children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in app functionality or legal requirements. Any updates will be published at this same URL with a revised effective date.
